Beatriz F. Fernández was born in the city of Brotherly Love: Philadelphia, PA in 1961. Throughout her life she lived in Puerto Rico, Spain, and now resides in Florida where she works as a Librarian at Florida International University. Beatriz finds great satisfaction when she completes a poem and feels like she did her best; however, she believes that if no one ever reads the poem, then the act of writing is not complete. She enjoys when people get the message she is trying to send with her poems, but she claims that it is okay when they get a completely different message. Fernández likes to represent other women’s voices, especially those stories of people we do not know much about either because the historical record has vanished, or because they were neglected by history, or eclipsed by their relationship to a famous male
