Jose G. Vázquez was born in the border city of Matamoros, Tamaulipas Mexico on February 24, 1966. He spent the first 30 years of his life living in Matamoros. He had a normal childhood. His family was middle class. No luxuries, no artists in the family, so he never really was exposed to art until later in life.

 

He has five brothers and sisters, three children and one granddaughter. His parents divorced when he was 14, so his mother raised them by herself. His paternal great grandparents came from Spain and his mother’s family is Mexican.

 

He got a degree in Business Management. He has no degree related to art at all. Spanish is his first language, so he speaks Spanish. Growing up on the border with The United States of America, he was exposed all his life to English language, but he really started practicing it once he moved to Charlotte, NC in1996.
