Sharon McElhone

Growing up in both the United States and Holland with her Ecuadorian mother and Irish-American father, Sharon McElhone was exposed to several different beliefs and ways of life. Her parents made sure to teach her to respect those differences, but also to think for herself. While attending an MFA program, she decided she enjoyed writing, though she realizes the great importance of education beyond the classroom. She now writes anything from novels, to poems, to essays, to short stories, etc. McElhone brings to light different life experiences such as those of women, Latin Americans, and the middle class. Through her writing she manages to better understand those experiences herself while illustrating them for others.
