Secilia Corona
Secilia Corona was born in Watts, a small community within South Central Los Angeles. She was born on September 22, 1994, in the Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital. Secilia spent her first twelve years in Watts, then moved to Riverside, California for four years, and then circled back to Watts. Secilia grew up at her grandmother’s house, in which lived three of her aunts. It was there that she was able to learn fluent Spanish with the help of her grandparents. Her aunts had birthed boys, and Secilia’s only sibling was also a boy, so she grew up in a house filled with rough play. Besides that, worry was always present since her mother worked two jobs at that time. She is very grateful to the life she is living, especially for her family. Coming from a Mexican heritage, Secilia learned how to behave through the strong discipline and customs of her mother. Secilia is currently seeking her Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology, Law & Society at the University of California, Irvine, and aside from writing, she enjoys drawing face portraits of friends or relatives.
