Gaston Virkel

Born in 1972 in Argentina, Gaston Virkel has had an interesting life, full of varying influences on his writing style. Virkel grew up in Buenos Aires with his younger brother and his parents, who were an accountant and a preschool teacher. As a child, Virkel often played soccer with his friends and is an avid fan of the Argentinian national soccer team, with fond memories of Argentina hosting the World Cup in 1978. With an even stronger passion for school and books, his passion of literature began at a young age when his parents would often read to him at night. He feels that as a writer, you must write whatever you want to. But at some point, you need some empathy with the characters and that only comes from our own perspective. You need to do a deep insight at some point. With Virkel being bilingual in English and Spanish, he says that at times, it is difficult to write fully in either of the languages, as the languages express themselves differently. He feels that in English, speakers tend to be shorter and to the point while in Spanish, it may take longer to fully express an idea in writing. Virkel feels his writing style is simplistic and that the narrator should be the one telling the story.
